Media monitoring
Systematic observation of agreed media sources for companies, brands or topics. Actual coverage depends on access, platforms and the agreed scope.
Source universe
The defined set of sources being monitored. Reliable time comparisons require knowing whether this base changed between analyses.
Boolean search
Combining search terms with operators such as AND, OR and NOT. For example, brand variants can be joined with OR and unwanted topics excluded with NOT. Exact syntax depends on the tool.
Clipping
A captured media item or documented extract with source attribution and metadata. Storage and distribution must reflect available usage rights.
Duplicate
An identical item recorded more than once. Duplicate checks prevent repeated technical capture from distorting coverage counts. Similar stories from different outlets are not automatically identical duplicates.
Relevance review
An editorial decision about whether a mention actually concerns the agreed topics and brief. A brand name alone is not always sufficient.
Topic alert
Prioritised information about a defined development. A useful alert separates verified facts, source context and open questions, following an agreed escalation path.
